Prepare An Obituary - Services Offered Through A Funeral Home

An obituary is a formal announcement of someone's death. It is fairly common for a loved one to seek assistance with preparing an obituary. A funeral director or another assigned employee of a funeral home can prepare one that will be posted online or published in a local newspaper.

A Death Announcement and An Obituary

A death announcement is a brief publication that announces the death of someone. This type of announcement provides basic details about the person.

An obituary is often more elaborate than a death announcement. An obituary will feature key details about a decedent's life. It will also provide information about the surviving family members and the memorial that will be held for the person who has passed.

A surviving family member who is in charge of the memorial plans may choose to request help with preparing the obituary. They can consult with the funeral director who will be overseeing the memorial.

The Preliminaries

The family member who will be meeting with a funeral director should provide personal details about the person who has died. The funeral director will conduct an interview process. The interview will help the funeral director acquire the information that will be added to the obituary. The director or another employee of the funeral home will be responsible for typing up the obituary.

A Template

A funeral home may have a series of obituary templates that a client can select from. Once a template is chosen, the person who is responsible for preparing the obituary will add personal details to the template.

A Custom Approach

A client can use a custom approach when preparing the obituary. If they would like it to be unique, they can convey their preferences to the person who will be responsible for typing up the information. A custom obituary can include pictures, personal quotes, poems, and other unique details.

The Posting or Publication Process

After the obituary has been prepared, the client will be able to view what has been written. During the viewing, they can make changes to it, and if they are satisfied with how it has been prepared, arrangements will be made to post it or to have it printed in one or more newspapers.

A client can also request to have the obituary posted directly on a funeral website or another website that will be used to announce the death of a loved one.

About Me

Planning A Meaningful Funeral When my dad passed away, it was really a relief for our family. Although that might seem strange, he suffered with cancer for so long that we were really looking forward to him not being in pain anymore. We started thinking about everything we wanted to do for his funeral, but we didn't quite know where to start. After thinking about the prospect of his service, we finally decided it would be nice to choose a memorial that he would like. We worked with his friends and our extended family to create a great event, and I was amazed with how beautiful the service was.
